Synopsis
This book features a stunning visual essay of 127 full-colour photographs by David James - many previously unseen - augmented by dozens of concept drawings. An introduction by director Rob Marshall discusses the filmmaker's visionary concept and the process by which his ideas were translated onto the screen. Arthur Golden then writes about the thrill of visiting the set during production and seeing his story brought to life. In the "Making Memoirs" section, readers learn about the fascinating seven-year journey of producers Lucy Fisher, Douglas Wick, and Steven Spielberg in their quest to make the movie. Finally, historical photographs illuminate a brief history of the tradition and mystique of the geisha, and also the culture of sumo wrestling.
