Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a snapshot of the conditions in Transylvania in 1922 by compiling reports from an American and British Unitarian Commission sent to visit their sister churches in Transylvania, the oldest group of Unitarian churches in the world. The report gives insights into the chaotic conditions that followed World War 1, with personal abuse, imprisonment without trial, and a general breakdown of the fabric of Transylvanian life. The author shows the plight of individuals and institutions, such as schools and colleges, after the Roumanian army entered Transylvania. The Commission reported that the main issues at the time were curtailment of activities and influence of ancient institutions which expressed and nourished a high civilization. This book is an invaluable resource for understanding the history of Transylvania and the challenges faced by religious minorities in the aftermath of war.
