AN ART THEFT AND MURDER ARE THE CATALYSTS FOR THIS ABSORBING MYSTERY

From the author of Death at the Chateau Bremont (Penguin Press, 2011), comes the fifth book in the Verlaque and Bonnet mystery series set in Aix-en-Provence.

Antoine and Marine are investigating both a murder and the provenance of a mysterious painting. Could it be a genuine Cezanne?

Pierre, a friend from Antoine Verlaque's cigar club asks him to visit a cranky old man named Rene, who thinks he may have discovered a Cézanne painting. But when they arrive, Rene is dead, the painting is gone and a beautiful American art history professor is in Rene's flat. Did she kill Rene? And where is the painting?

When the painting is recovered, the mystery only deepens. The brush work, the colours, the scene all point to Cezanne. But who is the smiling woman in the painting? She is most definitely not the dour Mme Cezanne. As the investigation continues, it turns up more questions than answers. Who killed Rene? Who tried to steal the painting? And what is the beautiful and mysterious American professor hiding?

Review:
"Charming" --The New York Times Book Review

"The Mystery of the Lost Cézanne is an enjoyable, civilised read, with likeable characters, a glorious setting and some beautiful descriptions of the artist, his work and the unique character of his subject." --Promoting Crime Fiction

"A splendid read" --Mystery Scene Magazine

"This is an easy to read, gentle mystery set in the South of France. The area, as well as its food and drink is vividly described. Though there is a murder at the heart of the story, as the title suggests it's really about the missing painting, and will particularly appeal to mystery-lovers with an interest in art history." --The Bookbag
