Synopsis
Between the Lines follows the poet's life journey. The first section speaks of a loving yet dysfunctional family, the second the resulting heartbreak, the third the healing from a surprising source and then a look at the shimmering joy that has always been there. She adds a section that reveals the grounding power of nature in her life, then a section of reflections on her experiences followed by a gesture at aging. Poetry has been part of Taru Ruth Rivera's life over a span of fifty years--both reading it and writing it. She began as Ruth Anne Robinson, then Robbie Robinson, Ruthana Robinson, Ruth Robinson Rivera and finally Taru Ruth Rivera. The play with names mirrors her pathway of change. The arrival at publication is part of a new beginning and a willingness to be seen.
