La Magdalena draws on the largely overlooked and almost forgotten document of early history, The Gospel of Mary, to create a fictional account of Mary Magdalen’s teachings, her disciples and her relationship with Jeshua (best known to us as Jesus Christ). Mary is presented as a member of an early sect called the Theraputeae who understood ancient knowledge and intuitive wisdom. As the story progresses Mary and Jeshua face the challenges of his imminent death, and the journey Mary and her followers must subsequently make as concerns for her safety become paramount. The book contains familiar elements of human behaviour such as love, betrayal, joy and jealousy as we join Mary in her account of the events that took place over two millennia ago, events that could have had a very different outcome.

I have been involved in emergency response for more than thirty years both in a professional and voluntary capacity. As a Basic Life Support Instructor I teach both the medical profession and the general public. I also teach various levels of First Aid and Emergency First Response. People are very aware that accidents and sudden illnesses can happen anytime, and sometimes our overworked emergency services can be delayed in getting to an incident. First aid is all about learning basic skills that can at times mean the difference between life and death. Knowing how to stop a bleed, recognise the symptoms of stroke or heart attack and be able to perform CPR or help a choking victim is easy when you know how. Now you can learn even more lifesaving skills. As a first aider, because of so many unusual and varied patient presentations, it can be difficult enough to provide appropriate treatments without wondering if you have strayed from your scope of practice. To help overcome this I have provided clear Clinical Practice Guidelines to help you deal with such events.
