Here you will find a marvelously witty, informative and sometimes downright libelous account of the happenings in the famous town of Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. Ireland! Read all about our eccentric characters and the many sporting achievements, (real or imagined) of our various rugby, football and soccer teams. Enjoy some of the finest scenery and natural beauty to be found anywhere on the planet. Raymond Fennelly’s latest book, “One More For The Road!” was launched at a function in Jack O’Rourke’s Bar, Abbeyfeale, recently. It received much critical acclaim (mainly from the author himself) and created quite a ripple of apathy in major literary circles. This latest offering contains a carefully crafted mixture of poor spelling, bad grammar, and the usual libellous content. It is said to contain many hidden and subliminal messages known only to the writer, and to those chosen few who have been granted exclusive entry into that weird, wacky and wonderful parallel universe to which he so frequently and enthusiastically retreats. There are stories of unrequited love, and of gambles gone astray. Excursions to the Listowel Races, to New York, and to the boglands of Lyre and Drom Fhada. Tales of Christmas long ago, and of batches of wrenboys in full regalia squaring up to each other at the crossroads. Sporting heroes are remembered in song and in story, as are the exploits of the many colourful and lovable rogues and characters that populate the local community. And interspersed throughout the book are the hilarious antics of the Leaving Cert Class of 1967, and their inevitably doomed attempts to flout authority and beat the system, often with quite unexpected consequences.
