Book Description Softcover. Condition: New. ReviewTHE BEOWULF TRILOGYA new translation of the Old English classic alongside two sturdy sequels. The first sequel (Beyond Beowulf) is the story of the challenges the tribe faces--raging storms, fearsome trolls--and the people it encounters. Yrfa's Tale, the second sequel is the real standout of the trilogy and brings an immediate humanity and realism to the epic tale. Webber's translation of the original is meticulous and vivid, indeed his clean, musical lines are excellent for reading aloud -- Kirkus IndieFrom the AuthorAbout one and a half millennia ago, an unknown author gave us the first great epic in the English language - or what would become the English language. Thousands of high school and college students still encounter it for better or worse every year. The rhythms of the poetry and the dramatic encounters between man and monster still compel our attention. But what happened next? The story ends with Beowulf killing the dragon while the dragon kills Beowulf. The tribe pushes the dragon off the cliff and commits Beowulf's body to the flames of a funeral pyre. As the flames consume the body, a women cries out, "What will become of us now? When our enemies learn of the death of Beowulf they will fall on us, and what will happen then?"Well - what did happen? For a millennia and half no one has answered that question but in"Beyond Beowulf" and the "Beowulf Trilogy" I provide the answer. In "Beyond Beowulf," we see the transition to new leadership and the voyage embarked on to find a new home. Human and non-human enemies and storms at sea challenge the survivors who at last find a new home in East Anglia where evidence of Scandinavian settlement still survives. But that story centers on Wiglaf the warrior. The story was still incomplete. "The Beowulf Trilogy" provides the same story as seen by Wiglaf's wife in "Yrfa's Tale" which takes us beyond the death of Wiglaf. The trilogy is completed by my own translation of Beowulf in alliterated poetry similar to the original. Here at last is the whole story!. Seller Inventory # DADAX1475108303
