9781456700188: Max and the Revenge of the Polar Bears

Synopsis

There's trouble brewing when a pair of adolescent polar bears are traded on the black market to a ruthless pharmaceutical corporation as part of its secret animal-testing programme.

Their future looks bleak until the bears join forces with Max Chambers and his friends who unwittingly expose the corporation's evildoings and embark on a rollercoaster quest of mistaken identities, kidnappings, great escapes and wild chases, searching for some well-deserved revenge.

The trouble boils over when Max is taken to deepest darkest Devon where he comes face to face with the unimaginable and unbelievably gruesome tactics of the corporation's bully-boy henchmen. They may well be professional hitmen but they soon realise they've bitten off more than they can chew as Max, the polar bears and more members from the WWF's Endangered Species List embark on a mayhem-packed, no-holds-barred, riotous path to retribution.

Revenge is sweet, but in the end, who will get to settle their score first?

About the Author

A M Hankins spent his formative years at a strict all boy's school run by Roman Catholic priests. His close friends are quick to point out that this explains a great deal.

His first literary work was a piece entitled Acorns, a one thousand word punishment essay issued by an overzealous school prefect. Upon reading the essay, it was discovered that the contents bore no relevance at all to the reproductive process of oak trees and the author was immediately despatched to the Headmaster for a solid thrashing. Undeterred, the author persevered and his second piece, Max and the Revenge of the Polar Bears, has been published for a much wider audience, safe in the knowledge that literary critics no longer wear cassocks and wield whip-like bamboo canes.

Despite the predictions of many, the author has avoided a life of petty crime. Instead, he has achieved notable success in several sales roles within the energy conservation and IT industries. When he grows up, he plans to devote his life to the conservation of sharks but for the time being, he lives as a semi-recluse, hidden away in the countryside, with a surprisingly tolerant wife and a lager-drinking, chilled-out Labrador named Brains.
