This is the second colour illustrated childrens book in the Henratty Mortimer series based on meerkats by the author. Henratty, Jack, Lyndi Lou and Oscar are the main characters and this story really depicts the different characters and is a tale of mystery, magic and a little romance too where the meerkats have to do some detective work in order to break a spell. Each meerkat definitely makes a contribution to solving the mystery and is very brave and courageous. It is certainly a story full of adventure that should appeal to children as well as adults. The books are written with the perspective of engaging both child and adult so that both parties enjoy the book. If you read the customer review on Amazon, this viewer's statement certainly epitomises Henrietta's overall aim when writing these books and should appeal to all ages.
The amazing illustrations also capture the true essence of this mystical story and really make the book come alive, you only need to look at the front and back cover and you are already drawn in by the book. Keep looking and you will feel the book coming alive.
All the books are written with an underlying motto: this book is all about good conquering evil whereas the first book in the series, Oscar's Birthday, is about sharing - the green eyed monster. The next book will be out next summer and is all about loving thy neighbour.

Henrietta grew up in East London, UK, where she qualified as a Medical Secretary when leaving school, but her writing skills began when she wrote poems for weddings. She has also written many songs and was in a funk band called Khush in the mid 90's. Henrietta's love for writing has lead her to write the Henratty Mortimer series of books, this being her second book. The inspiration came from reciting a story she made up to a 3 year old. The books are really a reflection of her childhood experiences and the characters are based on meerkats, one of her favourite animals. Henrietta believes there is a character that children and adults can relate to in her books once you read them. She says she is a big child at heart and always will be just like her father was. She loves the vitality and excitement that children show with everything they do and having had to be in charge of her two younger sisters, playtime was all about fun and games and using one's imagination, ensuring none of them were bored. As you read each book, the characters really develop and come into their own and the beautiful illustrations really captivate the true essence of the characters and the stories that Henrietta has created.
