Robert D. Morritt was born in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, and as a child grew up in Penarth, South Wales. Whilst at school, he wrote an article on an Iron Age Hill-Fort outlining the progress of archaeological excavations which was published in the local newspaper. He studied Prehistory and Early Agriculture at the University of Manchester.
