Fraser Boon is a 30 year old Physical Education teacher in a large comprehensive school in Wigan, Northern England. He dreams of living in sunny France despite the frustrations caused by his inability to speak the language. A Song Before Breakfast tells the story of the effect on his life by the arrival of his new French lodger, his latest idea to learn French. The lodger is not at all what Fraser was expecting and his life will never be the same again. It includes many amusing, surprising and disastrous incidents which occurred during the author’s career and some of the personalities, both colleagues and students who shaped it. The story is based on real events and goes towards explaining his reasons for having to leave mainstream education.

About the Author Ian Wilkinson was born in Wigan, England in 1958. He was educated at Upholland Grammar School and later studied at Alsager College. He taught Physical Education at Aspull High School and Cansfield High School. After leaving the profession in 1999 he obtained his RSA CELTA at Leeds Metropolitan University and taught English as a foreign language in Marsala, Sicily and in Paris. His love affair with France began in 1986 when he represented Lancashire Rugby Union at Bort-les-Orgues in the Auvergne region. He finally moved to France permanently in 2003 and now lives in Lyon where he divides his time between teaching English, writing and bar work.
