About the Author

Dr. Dizon holds a dual appointment as Associate Professor in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is a 1991 graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and trained in Internal Medicine at Yale New-Haven Hospital followed by Medical Oncology specialization at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). While at MSKCC he developed expertise in gynecologic malignancies and received a Career Development Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology for work on platinum drug resistance. He was a member of the Developmental Therapeutics faculty and Gynecology Disease Management Team of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center until 2003 when he assumed his current role as the director of Medical Oncology for the Program in Women s Oncology of Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, where he also serves as the Medical Director of the Program s Integrative Care Program. In 2005 he helped establish the state s first Center for Sexuality, Intimacy, and Fertility for women with cancer. In 2005 he was elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and he is currently on the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island chapter of the ACP. Nationally, he continues to pursue research in the novel treatments of both breast and gynecological cancers and is active in the Gynecologic Oncology Group, serving on Phase I, Developmental Therapeutics, and Cervix committees. He is the President of the National Consortium of Breast Centers and has federal funding to further explore the role of social networks in advance care planning of women with cancer. Nadeem R. Abu-Rustum, M.D. is Associate Attending and Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Resident and Medical Student Education, Gynecology Service, Department of Surgery, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He completed his Internship and Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore Maryland and a Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York He is in full-time practice of gynecologic oncology, and his clinical research interest is in gynecologic cancer surgery, including surgery for ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers.
