We only want the power and unction of the Holy Spirit, to bring home the truth with energy and savour to our souls. We want more of Christ, and less of self. May the Lord, who has so graciously made use of the former volume for the good of his people, and the glory of his name, make use of this also. May it endear the Saviour, promote confidence in God, lead to entire consecration of soul to him, and be the means of comforting many a weary pilgrim. May we all be led from the fleeting vanities of time, to the substantial realities of eternity. Reader, give the Author an interest in your prayers. He desires two things principally, to be more holy, and to be more useful. As a member of the One Church of Jesus, he desires to promote the love, peace, and unity of the whole body; ever remembering, that however we may differ in some things, we are all One In Him. James Smith is Lecturer in English Literature at Durham University. Author of a critical study on the work of Terry Eagleton (2008), he has published widely in journals such as New Theatre Quarterly and Literature and History. He received his PhD from Cambridge in 2007.
