Stevenage. 1986. The Psychobilly disease is spreading across the UK and Harry Powell and his mates have got it bad. They are followers of the brutal blend of Rockabilly & Punk that is seeping across Britain's musical underground and from the Klub Foot to Scarborough Scooter Rally, they will go anywhere for wrecking and rump. Review:
Like Quadrophenia with quiffs, Brackenridge s account of finding first love of both the romantic and musical variety is set in the satellite town of Stevenage in the mid-Eighties. However, having been raised in Cumbernauld, the author has no doubt transposed the tale from his hometown to the London suburbs for the purposes of creating a novel rather than a memoir. The stereotypical teenage need to belong results in his immersion in the Psychobilly cult scene, with much male bonding, arbitary violence, alcohol abuse and vulgarity of the Viz comic variety in this funny and touching tale of teen angst and tall hair. --Core Magazine, Aug/Sept 09.
About the Author:
From the author of 'Let's Wreck: Psychobilly Flashbacks From the 80's & Beyond' & 'Hell's Bent On Rockin': A History Of Psychobilly'. Craig Brackenridge has been writing about cinematic sleaze and demented Rock n Roll since 1995 and his first novel Psychobilly is solid slab of youth culture pulp soaked in knee-trembling smut.
