Born in 1913, the youngest of the children in an Italian immigrant family, Joseph Saylea grew up on a hardscrapple farm outsised Glastonbury, Connecticut. Early on he learned to value hard work and appreciate those who made their living with their hands. He also determeined that whatever fate the future held awaited him elsewhere. As the deperssion deepened, Joe turned to photogrpahy hoping to capture the beauty he saw everywhere around him, a beauty he thought was rarely translated to film and paper by the photogrpahers of his day..."
