Praise Songs is a collection of poetry that draws on the spirit of African griots who celebrate their subjects in words. These poems are rooted in both the tropical world - the Caribbean and Mexico - and the temperate, while the language shifts from sombre requiem to gleeful rhymes invoking sounds of rain and river and song. Jane Ulysses Grell invokes a vivid landscape that embraces both the traditional and the modern and explores journeys, loss and memories with both tenderness and exuberance.
