Brothers Ben and Ethan Jamieson need a break away from their work and the bad weather in Glasgow, Scotland. The answer is a holiday in the Mediterranean. They go to Calvi, on the island of Corsica for a week and start relaxing and switching off from their daily routines. One evening, half way through their holiday, as they finish off a good meal with a few bottles of cold lager, a young woman, half naked, runs towards them, screaming, "Please, help me!" While the crowds in the bars and restaurants laugh at her, thinking she has to be drunk or mad, Ben goes to her assistance, giving her his T shirt. As an experienced paramedic, he quickly sees the signs of shock. It turns out that the young woman is a fellow Scot, also in Calvi on holiday, from the city of Aberdeen. Her boyfriend has just drowned while out for a midnight swim. It takes many weeks for the police in Scotland to work out that the drowning of the young man in Calvi was not accidental and that the murders that follow in the city of Aberdeen are connected. By this time Ben and Ethan are too involved to walk away from it all, especially as Ben becomes closer to Silvana Mills, the woman he helped in Calvi. Ben starts visiting Aberdeen as often as he can to see her. The well travelled serial killer starts in Corsica and moves on to Scotland, Venice and Isle of Man. By the time detectives find the connection, Ben is completely involved and Ethan tries to get him away from it all. However, Ben now finds himself falling in love with Silvana and he's doing everything he can to protect her. Getting away is not an option.
