'Paths in the Wood' tells the story of RAF North Witham; now known as Twyford Wood located east of Colsterworth near the A1. This book records the opening of the airfield in 1943 through to its closure in 1960. The most significant event in its history being the starting point for the American part of the D-Day Invasion late on the 5th June 1944. It was from North Witham that the 82nd & 101st Pathfinders paved the way for thousands of airborne troops into the Cherbourg Penisular and beyond. Today, thanks to the Forestry Commission the airfield is accessible by the public.
