This manual describes and illustrates the main techniques of manipulation used in osteopathy. In concentrates on manipualtions of the vertebral column and pelvis because it is in these areas of manipulation that osteopathy can be most effective. In this third edition, arrows have been added to the photographs to indicate the direction of movement or pressure. This is designed to help the student to fully understand the written descriptions of the techniques. The first chapter deals with the principle of manipulative technique. The second chapter looks at the osteopathic spinal lesion and gives a detailed account of how to diagnose it. The third chapter covers the techniques themselves. Descriptions of soft-tissue techniques, articulatory techniques and other specific techniques are given. The last chapter examines manipulative techniques applied to the various stages of intervertebral disc lesions, and gives detailed descriptions of traction techniques.
