This text is concerned with two key areas in osteopathic practice: diagnosis and selection of treatment. The principles and practice of mechanical diagnosis are clearly explained, and a comprehensive approach to the selection and management of treatment is then provided. The book uses the techniques described in its companion text, "Manual of Osteopathic Technique", and is intended for students and practitioners. The second edition updates the material and takes account of recent research in osteopathy. It also includes a new section on osteochondrosis. The first chapter deals with the principles and theory of osteopathy. The second chapter covers mechanical diagnosis, while the third chapter classifies spinal syndromes, describing 24 syndromes in detail and giving the most effective treatment for each. The fourth chapter discusses the art of osteopathy, and is followed by appendices listing contraindications to manipulation, a review of osteopathic research literature and the new section on osteochondrosis containing previously unpublished material.
