This book, Volume 4 in the series, deals primarily with the Midland Railway locomotive fleet absorbed by the London Midland and Scottish Railway at the groupin of 1923. Also included are the motive power stocks inherited by the LMS from the London Tilbury and Southend Railway, (absorbed by the MR in 1912)., together with those of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway, which had traditionallyh gone to Derby for its locomotives. The four Midland Railway designes perpetuated and developed by the LMS are also featured;: the Compound and Class 2p 4-4-0s, the 4F 0-6-0 Standard goods class and the 3F 0-6-0T.
