Book Description Luath Press, 1993. Soft cover. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. P/B 186 pages, condition - Good. Ex-Library book with the usual stamps. Hamish Brown is well known as a writer on Scottish, travel and outdoor subjects, as a photographer, lively lecturer, and editor of two poetry anthologies. His short stories have appeared in a wide range of publications. Born in Colombo in 1934, Hamish Brown has roamed the world ever since: living in Sri Lanka and Japan, escaping from Malaysia to South Africa as a war refugee and taking in a dozen Middle East and East African countries during National Service days in the R.A.F. He has climbed and travelled extensively in the Alps and less-known areas of Europe as well as in the remote Andes and Himalayas and each year spends some months in the south of Morocco. When not busy travelling and writing, home is at Kinghorn, with a view over the Forth to Edinburgh. Although already the author of a dozen or so books, rnost of them reflecting his interest in and concern for the outdoors of Scotland, this is Hamish Brown's first collection of short stories. This collection shows a remarkable range of interests and enthusiasms. They range from a murder on a beach at midnight to a family picnic at Loch Lomond, from a search for Painted Ladies in the mountains of Morocco to a search for a cuckoo in the Scottish hills. These stories, although easy and a delight to read, yet show Hamish Brown's deep love for Scotland and the hills, and his profound knowledge of Scotland today. Bookseller Inventory # 055875
