Synopsis

The Federalist Papers are among the most important Founding Documents in the birth of the United States of America. The whole original debate over the Constitution is laid out here in detail for all to see. But most Americans have never read them. Why? Because they were written in the florid and complex language of 18th century politics. Now the Federalist Papers have been translated into modern American English. If you can read a newspaper, you can now read the Federalist Papers. See how the Founding Fathers foresaw the problems of impeachment, of corruption in government, of representation and all the other headline-grabbing issues we read about today! This new edition is indexed for today's political issues, a feature found no where else! The Clinton Impeachment? Regulatory excess? Bumbling bureaucracy? Gun control? Just see the index and find out what the Federalist Papers say about it! A publishing event of major importance!

From the Author

Founders understood current Constitutional issues.
I became a C-SPAN junkie in 1994. Within six months, however, I became confused about what the Founding Fathers did and did not think about as they wrote the Constitution. That's when I started reading the Federalist Papers. I was amazed that the Papers were discussing the same issues I was hearing discussed on C-SPAN. But I found them difficult to read. I began breaking up the long sentences and adding a subtitle to each paragraph so that I could follow the dsicussion. I created a personal glossary, made notes about which clause of the Constitution was discussed in each Paper, and indexed the subjects discussed. The Federalist Papers addresses the flaws that doomed previous attempts at self-government. It explains the precedents supporting the U.S. Constitution and what each clause in the Constitution is meant to accomplish. After discovering this, I wanted an easier-to-read edition available to people like me, average citizens who don't want to rely on "expert" opinions about the Constitution. ". . . the founders could not have imagined today's issues." This is a quote from Charlene Bickford, director, First Federal Congress Project, C-SPAN, June 16, 1995. I saved the quote because I firmly disagree. The Founding Fathers understood psychology, which seems to remain unchanged in every century. My hope is that this book will open The Federalist Papers to a new audience.
