About the Author
After several years of ecclesiastical service in various pastoral and educational settings, Cardinal Schönborn has gained international prominence for his work as Director of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994) the greatest single reference work on Catholic doctrine today. He continues to distinguish himself by his leadership of the Austrian Church, his dedication to the 're-evangelization' of Europe, and his commitment to the renewal of higher education in Europe and the United States. Cardinal Schönborn is a prominent voice in a wide variety of contemporary discussions and (though he himself avoids this characterization) is considered by many as 'papabile' that is, as a prelate with a significant chance of someday being elected Pope.
