9780897166515: Hubbard: The Forgotten Boeing Aviator

Edward Hubbard was the man responsible for the first mass produced commercial aircraft to be built by the Boeing Company. He convinced William E. Boeing to bid on the San Francisco-Chicago air mail route. The bid, in the name of Boeing Air Transport Inc., was successful. Both Boeing and Hubbard signed the mail contract with the United States Post Office. Also at Hubbard's suggestion the Boeing Company built 25 Model 40-B planes from a 1925 prototype.

About the Author:

Jim Brown's interest in Eddie Hubbard sprang from his research on air mail and his avid interest in stamp collecting. He has written articles on air mail flights for several magazines and newspapers and has a regular column of aircraft on stamps in the West Coast Aviator.

In his youth, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. After his discharge, he attended the University of British Columbia. He then worked in marketing for Standard Oil of B.C. and Chevron Oil Europe in Brussels until 1984.

He is an avid golfer, an ardent jazz and big band buff, and a life-long fisherman. He and his wife live on Pender Island.

Review:

...his research in writing this book reveals him as a true historian. -- Brien Wygle, Director of Flight Test, Vice President of Flight Operations, Boeing Airplane Company
