9780881923513: Gardening with Bulbs: A Practical and Inspirational Guide

Synopsis

Every garden should have bulbs - they are among the most precious of garden plants. The right bulb can be found for any position and no garden is too small to have a collection of bulbs. They range in size from the enchanting 3in high Crocus minimus to the immense Cardiocrinum giganteum which will rise to 10ft with more than twenty flowers on a stem. Although the spring is the period of greatest flowering activity, there are bulbs which will flower in any month of the year. Many will settle down and naturalise, producing a trouble-free self-perpetuating colony. In Gardening with Bulbs Patrick Taylor chooses the best bulbous plants (including corms, tubers and rhizomes). He describes their special qualities, gives information on their cultivation and makes suggestions for their garden use. They range from the very common to the very rare - but all are available commercially. The book is illustrated in colour throughout, with photographs taken by the author specially for it.
