Francois Lenormant was born in Paris in 1835, the son of Charles Lenormant (1802-1859), and followed in his father's footsteps as an archaeologist and classical historian. He was a member of several learned societies, acting as Deputy Librarian of L'Institut de France and later being elected a member of L'Academie Francaise. Lenormant died in 1883.
This reprint traces some of the most ancient sources of magic. Topics include incantations against evil spirits; Chaldean Demonology and sorcery; a comparison between Egyptian and Chaldean magic; and the Sumerian influence on Chaldea and Babylonian civilization.
