Wind energy is safe and non-polluting and in windy countries it can claim to be the cheapest method of generating electricity that can be installed. It is only environmental problems that stand in the way of a massive expansion of wind power on a commercial basis. This volume presents the proceedings of a European Wind Energy Association Workshop dealing with the environmental issues that are being faced. It describes the progress that is being made in planning, safety, noise, TV interference, visual and other amenities, legal and institutional matters, effects on wild-life and other topics including the option of off-shore siting.
