How I Came To Write SMART DOG
Like a lot of my stories, SMART DOG is the result of 2 (in other cases it's been more) separate strands of thoughts coming together: (1) The thought (dream? wish?) probably shared by just about everyone who has ever owned and loved a dog: Wouldn't it be great if I could talk to my dog and my dog was smart enough to talk to me?
Like a lot of my stories, SMART DOG is the result of 2 (in other cases it's been more) separate strands of thoughts coming together: (1) The thought (dream? wish?) probably shared by just about everyone who has ever owned and loved a dog: Wouldn't it be great if I could talk to my dog and my dog was smart enough to talk to me?
At the same time this thought was rattling around my head, (2) I was talking to some writer friends about school bullies, and I was thinking that, in my experience, girls tend to bully just as much as boys do--but that they have a totally different way of doing it.
That said, I have to admit that our family doesn't currently own a dog. We have a rabbit and the pair of mice that my daughter bought the first week she was away from home at college this year. (Except, of course, that the mice were discovered, thrown out of the dorm, and now there are 10 of them...)
