.If you think it s only right and proper that our finest songwriters are treated with the same academic respect as Shakespeare and Milton, then you re in for a fascinating read. Uncut, September 2004 "I found a lot of stimulating thought in Dylan & Cohen" Sing Out! Magazine, Fall 2004 issue David Boucher has written an excellent academic analysis of these two icons. Dylan and Cohen is a scholarly text, drawing on a range of theoretical perspectives from literary, philosophical and musical traditions, but it is also immensely readable. It is a superbly crafted book, and within it there is a wealth of information on Vietnam, civil rights, folk music traditions, feminism, capitalism / communism, and the Beatles and the Stones and how these two musicians were connected to them. So despite their advancing years, Dylan and Cohen represent a link between generations, drawing on older traditions but still speaking to the present and the future. Boucher has helped us to understand the many ways musical, political, religious and cultural in which they [Dylan and Cohen] have made a pivotal contribution to that bridge. Young People Now, 2004
