ABOUT THE BOOK Andre de Dienes once again proves his mastery of photography with Nude VariaBons. Delving into a number of unusual techniques, de Dienes explores a new dimension in his photography of nudes. Mirror images take on a bizarre abstraction with beautiful symmetry. Distortions create weird twisted forms and flowing contours dare the viewer to enter a fantasy created by de Dienes' lens. Toning the prints with color adds to a sense of unreality. Challenged to create what we can only try to imagine, de Dienes graphically depicts an amorphous world that transcends our perception of reality. ANDRE DE DIENES Andre de Dienes began his professional life as a fashion photographer. Born in Hungary in 1913, there he developed a love of the outdoors and an eye for detail. But Hungary could not contain the young de Dienes. His "urge to go" took him all across Europe and North Africa until he finally settled in Paris. It was in Paris that Andre de Dienes discovered a new hobby - photography. Basically a self-taught photographer, he became increasingly involved in both fashion and glamour photography and soon became a professional. In 1938, the artist came to the United States. Traveling across the country, he settled in Hollywood, Calif., where he now resides. It was here, amid the breathtaking scenery of the West, that he began to photograph nudes and win worldwide acclaim. The ensuing years and his growing mastery have brought de Dienes increasing recognition and fame for his work in "expressing the beauty of the nude in relation to Nature:" His numerous books are enjoyed by many in the United States and abroad. Presently, de Dienes devotes his time almost exclusively to photographing nudes.
