A meditation on a life lived intimately within nature
This book is a collection of 52 essays, as if one for each week of the year, arranged through the seasons. Each one describes a plant or group of plants that can be identified and gathered at that season and used, often for cooking but also for crafts. Within each chapter, I weave botany, poetry, myth, and practical information, to help others enjoy, as I do, a life lived in tune with the seasons and in appreciation of the wealth of the wild. Every chapter includes a delicate and accurate line drawing by my friend, Gail McIntosh, to help identify the plants being described. You need not be a survivalist to enjoy this book -- or, for that matter, to enjoy a taste of the wild.
