Suggs, Jr., presents the stories of twenty Ozark water mills, and Jake Wells illustrates these vignettes with drawings and beautiful watercolors.In introducing his historical sketches, Suggs traces the transatlantic origins and development of water mills, describing their spread throughout Western Europe to North America and noting early American contributions to water mill technology. In an epilogue he emphasizes the economic and social roles of the mills in the early life of the Missouri Ozarks.

Synopsis:

Despite his great contribution to the Allied war effort as Commander-in-Chief, Middle East, General Sir Archibald (later Field Marshal Earl) Wavell remains a little-studied figure. In 1941 he was responsible for eight campaigns covering a vast area, running five of them simultaneously in May. Some, such as the defence of Crete, failed, while others, especially the campaigns in the Western desert and in East Africa, were among the most resounding victories of the war. This book, based on extensive unpublished military and government sources and interviews with veterans, aims to provide both a work of scholarship and a portrait of a general at war.

Harold E. Raugh, Jr., is the Command Historian of U.S. Army V Corps in Heidelberg, Germany. Retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, he is the author of four books including Fort Ord and Presidio of Monterey.
