From the Publisher:
Beginning reader/ ESL,Adult Literacy /human-interest stories
A dog in Japan who swims 2 miles to visit his girlfriend. . . A restaurant in San Francisco that serves ground pearls . . . A doctor in Mexico who is known as "The surgeon who operates with his feet" . . . These are some of the stories in "More True Stories," the third in the "True Stories" series. This book for high-beginning students has the same flavor and format as "True Stories in the News," but is slightly more difficult: the stories are a little longer, vocabulary is more sophisticated, and sentence structures are more complex. Each of the 22 stories is introduced by a large photograph and is followed by exercies in vocabulary, comprehension, discussion, and writing.
Synopsis:
In this collection of stories from magazines and newspapers the vocabulary and structures used have been controlled to match those of a typical beginning ESL course. At the same time the language aims to be natural and the readings are designed to be fun and spark classroom discussions. The pre- and post-reading exercises encourage comprehension through: vocabulary development; reading skills such as making inferences, understanding details, and recognizing cause and effect; cultural insights; and personalizing ideas and themes.
