Synopsis
Thirty-four years later, the truth can finally be told. When the CIA wanted to bring down Lester B. Pearson they started with his closest friend.The official story is that Ambassador John Watkins died of a heart attack on the evening of October 12, 1964, at a farewell dinner with friends in a Montreal restaurant. But this story started to unravel 18 years later when Adams discovered, deep in the Montreal archives, the name of an RCMP intelligence officer on the ambassador's death certificate. Provoked, the Quebec government held an inquest, which revealed that Ambassador Watkins -- abandoned by everyone, including his long-time colleague and friend, Prime-Minister Lester Pearson -- had really died while under interrogation in an RCMP "safe-house" in Montreal. Adams takes readers back to the Cold War days when Washington considered Canada a hotbed of communist ideas and spies.
