Gender issues in development are integrated throughout the text. Classic research from Erik Erikson and Lawrence Kohlberg is critically examined in light of the latest research from Carol Gilligan, Ruthellen Josselson, Nancy Chodorow, Hilary Lips, Janet S. Hyde, Barbara Rogoff, and many others.
Similarities and differences between early and late adolescent development are discussed throughout the text.
A unique chapter on protective factors in adolescence (13) appears in this text.
Distinctive Research Focus Boxes, integrated throughout the text, help students understand the significance of research and its applications to adolescent development. Research methods and issues are also highlighted in Chapter 14, "Studying Adolescence: Research Methods and Issues."
