About the Author:
Charles Agar (Vietnam, Laos, Bali, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Myanmar) After completing a Masters in English Literature at the University of Rochester, work as an English teacher in Japan first brought Charles to Asia. The years since have found him in the region whenever possible, practicing Buddhism, teaching and studying language. This is his first assignment with Frommer’s and he’d like to thank the many people who helped him, among them: Rick Tuggey and Tim Miner for teaching him how to work, Bill Indick for being at the airport rain or shine, Eunice Agar for the tea, sympathy, and editing, Annette Monreal for sharing the roads of Laos, Mr. Abhay, Mr. Sousath, Kerry Howley, Tony Tran, and Ms. Phuoc. A special thanks to Connell McGrath for his help and encouragement, Keith Cahalan, Chaula Hopefisher, the Mandels for all the groovy dinners and above all his loving family as well as the many kind expats and fellow travelers he met while trudging along the happy road. Jennifer Eveland (Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia) She was a child when she and her family first moved to Singapore, and after returning to the United States, she was drawn again and again to the magic of Singapore, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. She is the author of Frommer’s Singapore & Malaysia and currently lives in Singapore. Beth Reiber (Hong Kong) She worked for several years in Germany as a freelance travel writer for major U.S. newspapers and in Tokyo as the editor of Far East Traveler .
