Grade 2-4-These two adventures feature Zeno, a young Martian who lives with his mother, and Zormella, his cyberpal from planet Numis. Galaxy Getaway details Zeno's journey to visit his friend. Along the way he stops for gas and food and discovers a stowaway that becomes his pet. When the creature is kidnapped, readers must solve several puzzles and codes in order to free him. In Planet Omicron, Zeno and Zormella are captured by space pirates while searching for buried treasure. Both books incorporate math throughout to solve problems requiring skills like addition, subtraction, multiplying, dividing, map and graph reading, simple code deciphering, counting, and geometry. Colorful cartoons boldly outlined in black illustrate the action and the puzzles. Appended solutions are clearly labeled and explained. The problems are well integrated into the stories showing that math really is part of everyday life. It is curious that the first entry is cataloged in 513 and the second in 793.7, which would probably be a better place for both titles.
