Synopsis:
Newly promoted, Bristol began the 1950 season in the First Division for the first time since the Second World War. In spite of critics' suggestions that they would be hopelessly outclassed, they proved they could hold their own in the higher tier and finished seventh. The performances of favourites such as Dick Bradley, Geoff Pymar and Chris Boss drew in the crowds and the team even managed to attract future world champion Bjorn Knutsson into their ranks in 1959. Hopes of continued success were shattered in 1961 when it was announced that Knowle Stadium was to be demolished and the Bulldogs found themselves homeless. It would be nearly seventeen years before speedway returned to Bristol at Eastville Stadium with new heroes such as Phil Crump and Steve Gresham entering the spotlight.Sadly, this comeback was to be short-lived as at the end of the 1978 season the Bristol team were once again cast out. Following on from Speedway in Bristol 1928-1949, this book follows the Bulldogs through what was an exciting but turbulent period in their history, showing their resilience and optimism in the face of adversity.
