Manual handling accounts for some 55% of all staff injuries reported annually within the health care sector. This new guidance is aimed at helping to reduce the high incidence of injuries to staff and stresses the importance of comprehensive training for management and staff. The guidance was prepared by a Working Group of the Health and Safety Commission's Health Services Advisory Committee in the context of the forthcoming Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
