Synopsis
There were few regimes in the history of mankind more prone to the manufacture of medals and awards than Hitler's Germany. Apart from the various grades of medal awarded for combat, there were also numerous awards made for length of party membership, for the number of children produced, for the fire and police services etc. While there was, in many parts of Europe, considerable resistance both during and after the German invasion, many others - such as the Rexists in Belgium - were pro-Nazi and found themselves assimilated into the Nazi structure. For these satellite states it was also inevitable that new medals and political awards would be created. Chris Ailsby, an expert on collecting Third Reich militaria, examines in depth the great variety of the medals and political awards developed for these satellite states. Providing a history of each medal and award, as well of illustrations showing both the front and reverse, the book is a detailed and comprehensive history of these collectable items. Where appropriate, information is also given on the noted recipients of the major awards, thus helping to make the book an essential work of reference for all collectors of militaria.
About the Author
Christopher Ailsby lives near Peterborough and is one of Britain's leading collectors of Third Relch militaria. He is a well known authority on the subject, and has also written the volume on World War 2 German Medals in the same series.
