Why should engineering lecturers use this textbook to teach flood hydrology to undergraduate engineers, technologists and technicians? This book brings together in a single volume all the formulae, maps and graphs necessary for a comprehensive understanding of flood hydrology, amply illustrated by worked examples. The flood estimation methods it contains were developed specifically for South African conditions. While the book retains its focus on fundamental principles, it introduces readers to a rich matrix of data and methods available to the South African hydrologist, thereby serving as a valuable reference tool for practising engineers, technologists and technicians.

About the Author:

Prof Johannes Haarhoff currently lectures at the University of Johannesburg. His interests lie in the quality and treatment of drinking water. This book is a result of his experience both in the professional and theoretical fields, and attempts to link what is done in practice by professional engineers to what engineering theory should cover in preparing future engineers. Amanda Cassa is a civil engineer, currently working on her PhD in water distribution systems at the University of Johannesburg. Her interest is in the water sector with a key focus on water distribution systems. She lectures courses on hydraulic engineering at the University of Johannesburg.
