Bimal Jalan is an Indian economic bureaucrat. He has written books like India's Politics: A View From The Backbench, The Future Of India: Politics, Economics And Governance, The Indian Economy: Problems And Prospects, and India's Economic Crisis: The Way Ahead. His writing focuses on various aspects of the Indian economy and its policies. Jalan was born in 1941. He attended the Presidency College in Kolkata, India. He later studied at Oxford and Cambridge. He held various prominent advisory as well as administrative positions with the Government of India. He served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between 1997 and 2003. He also represented India on the boards of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. In 2003, Jalan was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Indian Parliament.
