The aim of the Medical Masterclass is to help doctors in their first few years of training to improve their medical skills and knowledge. It comprises of twelve paper-based modules, two CD-ROMs and a companion website The twelve paper-based modules are divided as follows: two cover the scientific background to medicine, one is devoted to general clinical issues, one to emergency medicine and practical procedures, and eight cover the range of medical specialities. The core material of each of the clinical specialities is defined by case presentations in the first part of each module. Structured concise notes on specific diseases follow later. The two CD-ROMs each contain 30 interactive cases requiring diagnosis and treatment. The format is remarkably close to real life: you see the patient and are told the story; you have to decide how to investigate and treat; but you can't see all the results before you start to make dicisions! The companion web-site, which will be regularly updated, includes extended case material, literature and guideline updates and review, and self-assessment questions.
