They say your personality is set at age seven. This is the year Helen Jenks’s father left, the day after the millions went missing from the bank where he was a director. Helen never gave up her belief in her father, the familiar figure, Proustian smells, his classic BMW she now owns with that familiar smell of aftershave on rainy days, but everyone has doubts...and everyone doubts her. Did her heritage drive her to become a major player in the City’s dealing rooms, where derivatives players earn millions? The jungle of the City of London leads to the Machu Picchu trail in Peru, where Helen Jenks’s heritage becomes entwined with the world’s secret intelligence services and the biggest business of all, cocaine. Linda Davies takes you from the world’s financial centers to the mountains and jungles of Peru, where the old Incas succumbed to the conquistadores. -CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR INTO THE FIRE- “A cracking, fast-paced thriller. Excellently researched. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”- General Sir Peter se la Billière “Excellent depiction of Peru...well-handled cliff-hanger ending.”’- Daily Express -CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR LINDA DAVIES AND HER NOVELS- “Enough action, financial know-how and international hokey-pokey to satisfy any reader ... we get an idea of the coolness, daring and imagination that go into successful high-voltage trading involving hundreds of millions.” —The New York Times “Linda Davies pops her debut thriller into the microwave and brings it to a near-instant boil.... THIS BOOK’S A CLASS ACT.” —Glamour “Davies, herself a former merchant banker, does a terrific job of explaining the inner workings of foreign-exchange markets and of creating a sense of the supercharged atmosphere in which the traders do their deals.” —People “A STYLISH AND VERY CONTEMPORARY British thriller about international finance.... This first novel by young, gorgeous, etc., former banker Linda Davies feels about as real as a James Bond movie, but it satisfies in exactly the same flashy, fast-moving way.” —Mademoiselle “FAST-PACED FUN ... having worked on Wall Street and in London as a merchant banker, the thirty-year-old writer makes that world sound a whole lot more exciting than most of us give it credit for being.” —Chicago Tribune “UTTERLY FASCINATING when it deals with the giddy, high-risk manipulations of foreign-exchange traders. —Entertainment Weekly “PULSE-PUSHING YARN ... Davies lobs a female dynamo into the mostly male bastions of international finance and the government agencies that stalk those who prey on the markets.... Her writing style is mellifluous, her understanding of high-stakes currency trading authoritative yet unobtrusive, and her action scenes snap—making this A FINANCIAL THRILLER WITH BULL, NOT BEAR, WRITTEN ALL OVER IT.” —Publishers Weekly “Davies captures the lure of the [foreign-exchange] game ... LOOK FOR THIS ONE TO BE BIG.” —USA Today “THIS GRIPPING READ reveals a flashy merchant class and a moral void—akin to an upholstered pit in a gambling casino ... the game of fast-track money deals is as much an aphrodisiac as power and forbidden sex in this financial thriller.” —Kirkus Reviews

From the Author:
From the Financial Jungle to the Real Jungle
Helen Jencks, a beautiful young woman working as a derivatives trader in the City of London uncovers a massive fraud in which she herself is the obvious suspect! By fleeing to Peru she escapes the trap set for her, but in her new, exotic surroundings it gradually dawns on her that she has put her life in great peril. Soon she is on the run again, from the Andes to the jungle, and from Peru to Columbia. The chances of her surviving, let alone ever returning to London to confront the men who framed her, seem remote.

My three years spent living in Peru, as well as my earlier career as a banker, provided the inspiration for this novel.
