From the Author:
The fall of the Iron Curtain brings challenge - and danger
Amy Douglas is in trouble with her school, with the police and with her aunt. She is ordered to do community service in a mental hospital and suddenly her life changes. She meets another 'reject' from society, Josef, an elderly poet driven out of his homeland, Czechoslovakia. The two outcasts discover a mutual love of books; and soon the new friends are travelling together to Prague, where Josef is to receive a literary award. Ahead for Amy is love, a test of friendship, danger and discovery. I have tried here to capture the mood of transition in Prague from Communist rule to the hazardous freedoms of the age which followed the end of the Berlin Wall and the division of Europe. At the same time the story of Ticket to Prague explores the bonds which can grow between generations and cultures.
