Reilly's translation and editing are exemplary. There is a valuable introduction on Quantz, his life and his book. There are useful footnotes (some elucidatory), some noting differences between the two original texts (German and French, both issued in 1752), some supplementing Quantz's remarks with further information from contemporary writers. There is a full bibliography. The printing and layout are admirable, with the innumerable music examples clearly engraved.
