Hypothesis testing is introduced in the way that it is used in scientific investigations in terms of p-values. It is distinguished from decision making by the latter being discussed in a different chapter. Likelihood and sufficiency are regarded as fundamental to inference; parametric and non-parametric techniques are integrated; there is a final chapter on Bayesian methods and the basic ideas of exploratory data analysis is introduced in the chapter on organizing data. Worked problems at the end of each chapter provide students with a chapter review before attempting the problem exercises.
