About the Author

David Anderson is the Paul G. Blazer Associate Professor of Economics at Centre College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and Masters and Doctoral degrees from Duke University. Dr. Anderson has published research in the areas of classroom technology, active learning, and teacher evaluation, among topics from childbirth to social insurance. He has received a National Endowment for the Humanities distinguished professorship, and grants for economic education projects from the 3M Foundation and the Andrew Mellon Foundation.

Carolyn Brown is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author with more than sixty books published. She writes bestselling single title cowboy and country music mass market romances, as well as women's fiction. Born in Texas and raised in southern Oklahoma, Carolyn and her husband now make their home in the town of Davis, Oklahoma.

Christopher Clapham was until 1993 Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Aberdeen and has also taught at universities in Nigeria, Lesotho, and Malawi. He is the author of Introduction to Abstract Algebra and Introduction to Mathematical Analysis. He lives in Exeter. James Nicholson has
taught at Harrow School and was Head of Mathematics at Belfast Royal Academy. He is involved with many mathematical and statistical professional associations and has a particular interest in education. He has had seven articles published, and currently holds a bursary from the Teaching Statistics
Trust to support a classroom-based research project. He is the co-author of Statistics GCSE for AQA (OUP, 2001).
Michael Gomez is professor of history and Middle Eastern and Islamic studies at New York University. He is the author of "Exchanging Our Country Marks: The Transformation of African Identities in the Colonial and Antebellum South".

David Robinson and Mary Ann DiSpirito have carefully selected over 200 images, most of which are previously unpublished, that illustrate the many changes that Burlington has endured since the 1860s.
