Synopsis
All the IEEE Standards and American National Standards on electrical and electronics graphic symbols and reference designations are contained in this volume. These standards define an international language by which it is possible to determine the functional behavior of a logic circuit as described on a logic or circuit diagram with minimal reference to supporting documentation. Like natural languages, the language set forth has been designed to allow a single concept to be expressed in one of several different ways, according to the demands of a particular situation. The standards are organized to strike a balance between a tutorial and a reference-oriented presentation. References have been avoided as much as possible so that the material may be understood after a single careful reading from front to back. The pictorial contents page can be used as a quick, visual index for someone returning to the standard to interpret a symbol or diagram.
